San Diego State is coming into this game with a 26-10 record this season and they were 11-7 in their conference. They have been playing well in their recent games as they have won their last 2 straight as well as 4 of their last 5 games. They have not been very dominant in their recent games though. They are coming off of a big win against Yale in the last round but they also struggled to beat UAB by 4 points in the 1st round and they have not really had a tough challenge in this tournament. Even in their conference tournament, they had a very close win against UNLV by 3 points in OT and also lost to New Mexico in the finals. This is a rematch of the finals last season as UConn beat San Diego State to win the National Championship and as different as this UConn team may be from last season, this San Diego State team is also very different and has not been as good this season. Last year, San Diego State went to the finals and lost to UConn but they were the best team in the MWC during the regular season and they also won the MWC Tournament. They did not win the MWC Tournament this season and they only finished 5th in the conference during the regular season as well. They are going up against a UConn team that is 33-3 this season and was 18-2 in their conference. UConn may have lost 3 of their starters to the NBA from last season but they have shown in their games that this team is just as good if not better than the one last year. They were the best team in their conference during the regular season and they even won the Big East Tournament this year which is something they did not do last season. San Diego State also leaned on their defense heavily last season in this tournament and their defense is still very good, but their offense is in the bottom half of the country. UConn also has a very good defense but the difference is they have an elite offense and San Diego State will not be able to keep this game close. UConn will cover the spread in this game.
