Rangers vs Athletics Prediction

The Texas Rangers will be taking on the Oakland Athletics in this matchup at Ringcentral Coliseum on Saturday. Game 1 of this three-game series is still to be played on Friday night with the result pending. The Rangers are currently on a 4 game winning streak including a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks in a two-game series. The A's are currently on a 2 game winning streak after taking 2 of the three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.

The Rangers are coming off of an 8-5 win over the D-backs on Thursday night with the series opener against Oakland to be played Friday night. The Rangers will have Kolby Allard starting on the mound for them in Saturday's game and he is 3-12 with a 5.00 ERA this season. He was credited with the loss in his last 2 starts and the Rangers have only won 2 games in their last 14 when he has been the starting pitcher. He has been in a rough patch in his recent games allowing more than 3 runs in each of his last 4 starts, but that has been a common theme all season. In his last time out he allowed 4 runs and 1 BB on 5 hits through 5 innings only getting 4 Ks in the game. He has seen the A's lineup in 4 different games this season and the Rangers are 1-3 in those games, he did not allow less than 3 runs in any of those. Luckily, the Texas offense has put up 22 runs in their last 4 games averaging over 5 runs per game in that span. They will need a lot of help from their hitters if they expect to win this game.

The A's are coming off of a 3-1 win against a strong White Sox team in their Wednesday game. For Saturday's game, the A's will be starting Cole Irvin. Irvin is 9-13 with a 4.10 ERA this season. The team has gone through alternating wins and losses in the last 7 games he has started in. He has not allowed less than 3 runs in any of his last 5 starts and he was absolutely rocked in his last time out on the mound. He allowed 7 runs on 8 hits in just 2 IP and has now been credited with 2 losses in a row in games there was a decision. He has also seen the Rangers lineup 4 times this year and the team is 2-2 in those games, he allowed exactly 3 runs in all but one of those games where he allowed 2. The A's offense has only put up 11 runs in their last 3 games averaging a little under 4 runs scored per game. They may need to wake up a bit more depending on which Irvin shows up on Saturday.

Both of these pitchers have been trash in recent games and pretty much the whole season but the A's have a slight advantage in that department. The Rangers have been hitting very well though scoring a lot more than the A's. Oakland did face some good pitching in the last series and might be able to do more in this game. With these two pitchers starting the value in this game is on the over.

Players to Watch

Texas Rangers: Adolis Garcia is one player to watch in this one. He leads his team in HRs and in RBI and they will need him to put in a good effort here if they want to beat a good Oakland team. Irvin has shown his cracks this season so if Garcia can take advantage of his poor pitching then he could be in for a long night against the Rangers.

Oakland Athletics: Matt Olson is one player to watch in this game. He leads his team in hits, HRs, and in RBI and he will be facing a pitcher that has been struggling all year. With the playoffs lurking just around the corner this is his time to start heating up and help his team get into a playoff spot.

Notable Quotes

"I saved the homer for him. I didn't want to take his hits away." Nate Lowe on not completing the cycle in that game after a very good outing at bat.

"It's huge. Especially against those guys. Those guys are a playoff team. Anytime you get a team like that, it's a good indication of how we stack up. So playing against those guys and getting these last two wins was huge and definitely, I think a big momentum push for us." - Sean Manaea on taking 2 of the 3 games against the Chicago White Sox.
