Recent Form:

The Seattle Mariners come into this game on a bit of a hot streak winning 5 of their last 6 games. After winning 4 games in a row, their streak was snapped but got back on track after a 3-1 win to the Rangers on Tuesday. After losing 4 straight road games, the Mariners have found themselves back in the winning column as they are currently on a 2 game win streak away from home. Scoring has been a bit of an issue though, as they have scored more than 3 runs on 1 occasion in their last 6 games. They are facing a Texas Rangers team that has been on and off in their past few matches. They have lost 3 of their last 5 games, alternating between loss and win in that span. Before that 5-game span, they had put together just 1 win in 8 games. Their luck at home has not been much better, they have won just 2 of their last 7 home games.

Series History:

The Mariners definitely have the advantage in the series history h2h this season. After Tuesday's game, the Mariners are 11-6 on the season against the Texas Rangers. They have won the last 3 straight against the Rangers, and they won 2 of the 3 games they played in the last series against them at t-mobile park just a week ago. They do have a losing record in Texas this year as the Rangers are 4-3 at home against the Mariners this season.

Statistical Comparison:

The Seattle Mariners come into this game as one of the worst teams in the MLB when it comes to hitting, ranking in last place in a few of those categories. The Mariners are ranked dead last in the league for batting average (.222), 21st in the league for RBI (481), last in the league for hits (868), and they are 29th in the league for OBP (.299). When it comes to pitching, they have been more of a middle of the pack type of team. The Mariners are ranked 15th in the league in ERA (4.29), 9th in the league for saves (32), 21st in the league for strikeouts (989), and they are 13th in the league for WHIP (1.28).

The Texas Rangers also come into this game as one of the worst teams in the MLB when it comes to hitting. They are ranked 29th in the league for batting average (.222), 29th in the league for RBI (427), 29th in the league for hits (873), and they are dead last in the league for OBP (.289). They are also one of the worst teams in the MLB when it comes to pitching due to a poor rotation and bullpen. The Rangers are ranked 24th in the league for ERA (4.70), 26th in the league for saves (21), 29th in the league for Ks (925), and they are 20th in the league for WHIP (1.35).

Mariners vs Rangers

Game Preview:

The Seattle Mariners are in Texas taking on the Rangers for the final game of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon. The Mariners took the first game of this series on Tuesday winning 3-1. Wednesday night will feature 27-year old Marco Gonzales and Mike Foltynewicz battling it out on the mound in this American League West matchup tonight. The Mariners come into Thursday afternoon's game as the better team sitting above Tex by 21 games. The Mariners have been playing much better recently winning 5 of their last 6 games while the Rangers have just 2 wins in their last 7.

The Mariners will have Chris Flexen as the starter on top of the hill on Thursday. Flexen is 10-5 this season with a 3.78 ERA. He has been awarded with 5 wins in his last 7 starts where there was a decision made. The team has won 2 of the last 3 games he has started in, and he has been pretty stout in those games. He has not allowed more than 3 ER in a game in his last 3 starts, only allowing a total of 7 runs scored against him in that span. He only allowed the 2 earned runs in his last start on Friday against the Blue Jays. He has seen the Rangers 3 times this season and he is 3-0 against them. In the last 2 games he faced the Rangers in, he has only allowed 1 earned run total in those 2 games, shutting texas out in one of them.

Spencer Howard will be throwing the first pitch for the Rangers in this game. He is 0-3 this season with a 5.61 ERA. He has been credited with 3 straight losses this season. He was recently acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Rangers have already lost both games that he has started in. His team has actually lost 6 of the last 7 games where he has made an appearance. He did not allow any ER in the last game he pitched in but, he did allow 7 earned runs total in his 2 starts prior to that. The last game he pitched in was against these Mariners where he did not allow a single run but he only played 3 innings in that one. The Rangers still went on to lose that game as the Rangers bullpen really let them down.

The Draftkings sportsbook has the MLB odds for Seattle as the favorite here and Texas as the underdog with this total set at 8.5. The Seattle Mariners have a much better advantage here when it comes to team comparison of the stats. The hitting game is pretty even but, it is the pitching that the Mariners have been much more consistent and overall better than the Rangers in. They also have a better pitcher starting in this game here. The Mariners were not able to score any runs against Howard in the last game they faced him in but that will most likely not be the case on Thursday. The Mariners are in a much better position to defeat the Rangers in this game and close out getting the series win. This match preview is backing the Seattle Mariners.

Notable quotes:

"Last time when I faced them at home, I felt like I threw too many pitches through five. Today, I was just trying to attack the zone a little bit more, force contact." - Tyler Anderson on his performance after facing the Rangers for the 3rd time in 4 starts.

"If I had it my way, I wouldn't want to know how many pitches I'll throw. I always tell (pitching coach Doug Mathis), ‘Just tell me when to stop.’ " - Taylor Hearn on one of his best starts as an MLB pitcher, despite the Rangers losing the game.

Trends:

Seattle: 76-61 on the money line when playing a team with a losing record over the past 3 seasons.
