Chicago Bears vs Los Angeles Rams Preview and Analysis

Recent Form
The Bears went 8-8 in 2020.  They swung from quarterback to quarterback and can and should thank the defense for the 8 wins.

The Rams went 10-6 in 2020.  They made the playoffs ands beat the Seattle Seahawks before getting smoked by the Green Bay Packers.  That all sounds good, but for the Rams in a new stadium with Los Angeles expectations and the Chargers sharing a stadium with a rising star quarterback.  That will not do!  Preseason games are over, it's time to win or maybe Sean McVay needs less control on the roster.

Offensive Analysis

Last season the Bears were a mess on offense.  Laughable really because everyone was laughing.  Between Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky they struggled to score, averaging only 22.4 points per game.  This offseason they fixed everything and nothing.  They drafted exciting, talented, young rookie quarterback Justin Fields… and they aren’t going to play him.  Instead they are going to start the season with free agent acquisition Andy Dalton… you know Andy he is the guy who couldn’t win with the Dallas Cowboys last year.  So the good news is the Bears made a huge improvement at quarterback and the bad news for Bears fans they won’t be putting that improvement on the field.

The Rams jettisoned Jared Goff and picked up Matthew Stafford.  Stafford has been quarterbacking for the Detroit Lions for many unsuccessful years.  The league never deemed Matthew the problem, he was always seen as a great quarterback saddled with a junk roster around him.  All excuses are out the window now.  He has jumped into an NFC West division with the Cardinals, Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers.  He has been given a stacked roster full of starters that shine.  His receiving core of Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Tyler Higbee is considered one of the best in football, his line ranks high, his defense os strong… the only misfortune so far has been losing RB Cam Akers to a season ending Achillies injury.  It’s time for Matt to put some proof on his hype.  The Rams fully expect to make the Super Bowl, and they won’t be sidetracked by a NFC North team that refuses to play it’s best quarterback.

Defensive Analysis

The Bears have the much hyped LB Khalil Mack who led the team with 9 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 71 tackles.  His mega trade a few seasons back hasn’t translated into extra wins for the Bears but he is certainly doing his part.  He got help from Roquan Smith who had 180 tackles, 18 for loss.  This is a tough defense that has been drastically underserved by the offenses that have shared their squad. Always a question of if the quarterbacks will do their part to get this defense the wins they deserve.

Los Angeles is more than movie stars and sunny weather.  It’s more than beaches and world class restaurants.  Los Angeles is home to the NFL’s baddest man, Aaron Donald. Before you run through a list of other bad or tough men… remember you won’t find one badder.  Aaron Donald had a line of 13.5 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 63 regular tackles. He is more than those numbers though as he is routinely double teamed.  Announcers routinely point out that Aaron is the heart of the Rams defense, a nightmare matchup for any o-lineman.  Plus he does it from the D-tackle spot.

NFL Betting Trends

The Rams won 9 games ATS last season.
The Rams finished 8-4 in the 12 times they were moneyline favorites.
The Bears covered 8 of 16 games last season ATS.
The Bears were 8 Over and 8 Under in 16 games.

Key Injuries

Bears:  No official Outs reported.
Rams:  Cam Akers RB, our for season.

Players to Watch

Bears:  Andy Dalton.  The Bears give you no choice.  Andy will be on the field trying to improve on his 14 touchdowns and 8 interceptions with the Cowboys last season.  The most interesting Bear will be holding a clipboard on the sideline.

Rams:  Aaron Donald:  If you watch a Rams game sure you want to see if Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp can find chemistry blah blah… The show is Aaron Donald.  13.5 sacks last year.  Extra game this year.

Notable Quotes

"I just feel like we're just in a good position with Andy,...It starts with how we feel about Andy, and we're very confident in him and where he's at. So, there's no need for us to rush Justin." -GM Ryan Pace,...hahahahaha. He’s a card.

"I think our guys have done a really good job of establishing themselves as a winning franchise and a good product that fans want to come see."  – Sean McVay.

Statistical Leaders

Coaches:
Bears:  Matt Nagy.  It all rides on this season for Matt nagy and their GM Ryan Pace.  This season is “win or get fired”.  That is why Andy Dalton is wasting everyone’s time starting.  These two knuckleheads don’t want any rookie mistakes costing their jobs… so they’re gonna has-been mistakes cost their jobs.  Nice going Boys, turn off the lights on your way out.

Rams: Sean McVay.  The wunderkind is now a rangy vet.  He got rid of Jared Goff and it only cost the Rams 5 first round picks to do it (they spent 3 firsts drafting Jared).  Time for results.

Weather Forecast

Sunny.  85*.  Pretty girls everywhere you look.  Humidity 51%, wind 6 mph.
