Colorado is 3-7 over their last ten games. Going 4 Over, 6 Under. They went 1-2 against the Texas Rangers, 2-2 against the Atlanta Braves in a four-game series, and 0-3 to the San Francisco Giants (doing the Dodgers no favors).
The Phillies are 6-4 over their last ten games. Beat Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0, went 3-0 against the Washington Nationals, 2-2 against the Miami Marlins, 0-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Winning against bad teams and losing to good teams… sort of the Phillies Mantra this year… and they are in a bad division.
The Rockies used up starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela, and the Phillies used up Ranger Suarez in the Thursday night game (about to start now). The Rockies have literally nothing to play for with 21 games left in the season. The Phillies have a chance of playing for something if they win and keep winning. Philly has all the desire. They hit well and they have the advantage of thin air in a mile high altitude while they are at home…. But they aren’t a good team. They are 22nd in BB. Walks aren’t a joke when the entire league is judged by numbers.
The Phillies are 17th in batting average at .240, 13th in runs scored at 636 (just behind the Phillies by 1 run), and 15th in home runs 170. They can hit for average which means they need great pitching to move forward.
Defensive Analysis
The Rockies are a lowly 26th in team ERA 4.83, 25th in strikeouts at 1111, and 25th in WHIP 1.38. They hit for average but have no pitching. This will all be addressed in the offseason like every bad pitching team says. Until they sign a quality FA don’t believe it. The Rockies pitching staff has mumbled along for years now just waiting for someone to come along and raise the average. It never happens because you won’t find it in the minors.
The Phillies are 20th in ERA 4.44, 10th in strikeouts 1268, and 16th in Whip 1.30… not much better but enough. Neither of these teams are screaming about how they belong in the postseason by their play. Philadelphia will get pushed around if they qualify for a wild card.
