 The day after Opening Day! The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the last World Series. The Colorado Rockies dreamt of the last World Series from the bottom of the standings.  In the offseason the Dodgers picked up Freddie Freeman, the leading batting average, hits, home runs.. Etc.. of the team that beat them.  The Rockies called some guys up from the minors.  It is not hard to see who will be the better team this year, but who will be the better team in the second game of the first series of the MLB season?

This is supposed to be a big Over/Under as it is early in the season and at Coors field. The Dodgers are favorites as they will be in every matchup with the Rockies this season.

The Dodgers went 106-56 last season.  They fell just a couple of games short of a World Series title.  The big obstacle for the Dodgers was of course that they had to get by the San Francisco Giants.  They did.  The Dodgers faced some struggles last season… they had subpar seasons form RF Mookie Betts, 2B Trea Turner, and CF Cody Bellinger.  In fact they ultimately relied on Max Muncy to be their power hitter and SS Corey Seager and LF A.J. Pollack to get them clutch hits.  This season will be different.  A.J. Pollack is gone!  The three players mentioned as having bad years all have chances to redeem themselves by finding their former greatness and the Dodgers also added Freddie Freeman form the team that beat them in the World Series.  Freddie only led the World Championship Atlanta Braves in hits, Home runs, and batting avg.  That is all.  The Dodgers are better than they were last season.

The Colorado Rockies don’t change very much year to year.  They finished last season 74-87… well out of contention for anything… and outside of bringing some guys up form the majors.. They have done little to change the roster.  They are interesting in that they will sell a lot of Coors Beer in the stadium.  Coors is terrible.  It’s practically swamp water with a drop of alcohol in it.  No one should actually drink that swill.  Am I talking about the beer or the team.  The Rockies will again be a losing team… but will they have what it takes to hit the Over?

The Dodgers will open the season with a winning series against the Rockies. The Rockies do not have what it takes to get the Over in this one.  Usually in Coors Field the altitude helps guys jack it over the wall.  Not enough in this one.  11.5 is the sort of O/U mark that should get you betting Under.  The bet is Dodgers,.. And the Under.

Based on last season alone, German Marquez has a slight numbers advantage. Of course neither guy has a wealth of stats to draw from.  They are both entering an important year to make a mark in the bigs.. Year Two.  It’s a whole new ballgame… and what we know is Gonsolin will have run support that Marquez will not.
