Bowling Green Falcons Analysis

Bowling Green is coming into this college football game with a 1-2 record overall and is 0-1 on the road this season where they will be in this game, their first road loss coming against the Tennessee Vols. This will be their 4th non-conference game in a row. They are coming off of their first win of the season last week against Murray State. Matt McDonald played alright in that game completing 22/28 passes for 221 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Their run game was not very strong as Nick Mosley led the team in rushing with 48 yards on 9 carries. The receiving corps also had a fairly quiet day with Austin Osborne leading the way with 69 receiving yards on 6 receptions. Devin Taylor and Davon Ferguson both led the defense with 4 solo tackles and 1 assisted one. Diego Neri and Blaine Spires both recorded 1 sack each while Jack Wardzala and Dierre Kelly both had 0.5 sacks in that game. Sy Dabney and Brock Horne both came away with 1 interception each in that game. They have scored 52 points in their first 3 games and have allowed their opponents to score 70 points against them. The Bowling Green offense is averaging 296.3 YPG while their defense is allowing 347.7 YPG.

Minnesota Golden Gophers Analysis

Minnesota is coming into this game with a 2-1 record overall this season and a 0-1 record in conference games. This will be their 3rd non-conference game of the year though and their last. After this one, they have Purdue, Nebraska, Maryland, Northwestern, Illinois, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Indiana, and Wisconsin all coming up on their schedule and they have already played a really good game against the Ohio State Buckeyes which they lost but not until they let that one go in the second half back on Thursday, September 2. They are 1-1 at home where they will be in this game. They are coming off of a big 30-0 win in Colorado over the Buffaloes last week, a Pac-12 team. Tanner Morgan played a solid game at the quarterback position completing 11/17 passes for 164 yards. Treyson Potts had a huge day in the run game as he led his team in rushing with 121 yards and 3 touchdowns on 26 carries. Mar'Keise Irving also had a nice day with 89 rushing yards on 15 carries. The receiving corps were quiet as Chris Autman-Bell led the team in receiving with 79 yards on 4 receptions. Jack Gibbens led the defense with 5 solo tackles and 1 assisted one. Thomas Rush and Boye Mafe both led the team in sacks with 2 each while no one on the defense came away with an interception. They have scored 92 points in their first 3 games and have allowed their opponents to score 71 points against them. Their offense is averaging 378.7 YPG while their defense is allowing 299.7 YPG.

Bowling Green vs Minnesota Prediction

This game is going to go over the total. The total is set very low which helps a lot but this is a case where Minnesota is going to be riding high after a game where their defense did not allow a single point. That will likely not happen again here and they have already allowed another team from the MAC conference to score 26 points against them in a single game this season. Their offense will be rolling a lot here as they have scored over 30 points in every game and will probably even score more here. BGSU is also going to be riding high as they just got their first win since 2019 and they will make a big effort to stay somewhat competitive in this game, especially since Miami-OH was able to against them. Both of these teams are going to score points and since the total is set at a number below 50, the over is the best bet to make here.

Players to Watch

Bowling Green Falcons: Matt McDonald is one player to watch in this game. They are coming off of their first win of the season and it will be up to him to keep up that intensity for him and his team. If they want to have a chance of winning this game he will need to step up in a big way here so look for him to do that.

Minnesota Golden Gophers: Trey Potts is one player to watch in this one. He already leads his team in rushing yards and touchdowns but he will have to keep picking up the slack now that Mohamed Ibrahim is out for the season. Potts had a big game last week so look for him to keep playing at his best.

Notable Quotes

"I'm excited for those guys. Last week was horrible; it was miserable. I give them credit. We're a young team, they could've tanked it. They came out with a great attitude. We're just going to keep getting better and better. That's the goal." - Scot Loeffler on his team getting their first win since 2019.

"We came in here with incredible focus. What our defense did was a wonderful performance." - P.J. Fleck after a very impressive 30-0 win on the road in Colorado.
