Atlanta Braves Analysis

The Braves are coming into this game after their series finale against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday 3-0. Monday will be the series opener of a four-game series between the Braves and the D-backs. The Braves snapped a 4 game losing streak with their win on Sunday. They still lost their series with the Giants and were swept in a two-game series before that against the Colorado Rockies. Max Fried got the nod for Sunday's game while Huascar Ynoa will be the starting pitcher on the mound in this game on Monday. He is 4-5 with a 3.26 ERA this season. He has been credited with 4 losses in a row now and his team has lost 4 of their last 5 games that he started in. In his last start, he allowed 2 ER and 2 BB with 8 Ks on 4 hits though 4.2 IP against the Rockies last Wednesday. He has faced the D-backs lineup once this season back in April and he is 1-0 against them as he only allowed 2 runs in that game. Their offense has scored 8 runs in their last 3 games averaging just under 3 runs scored per game in that span. They have also allowed their opponents to score 8 runs against them in that same span allowing just under 3 runs per game.

Arizona Diamondbacks Analysis

The D-backs are coming into this matchup after losing their series finale against the Houston Astros on Sunday 7-6. They have now lost 5 of their last 6 games, including losing that series with the Astros and getting swept by the LA Dodgers in a three-game set before that. Zac Gallen was the starter for Sunday's game while Humberto Mejia will be throwing the first pitch for them in this game on Monday. He is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA this season. He has only pitched in 2 games this season and his team lost both of those games. In his last outing, he allowed 4 ER, 2 of them being homers, and 1 BB with 3 strikeouts on 8 hits through 6 innings of work against the Philadelphia Phillies back in August. He has not faced the Braves lineup at all this year. Their offense has scored 15 runs in their last 3 games averaging 5 runs scored per game in that span. They have also allowed their opponents to score 15 runs against them in that same span allowing 5 runs per game.

Braves vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The D-backs are literally one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball this year and were the first team to reach 100 losses on the season in the National League. The Braves are currently leading the NL East but they have the Phillies just 2 games behind them for that lead. They will need to keep winning games here or there is a chance that they could slip out of a playoff spot. They will need to take advantage of playing this very bad team in this series and use it as an opportunity to sweep and get some easy wins. The current betting odds for the D-backs have them as big underdogs so the best bet to make here is on the Braves to win this game on the money line or the run line.

Arizona Diamondbacks: 48-100 (-35.7 units) on the money line in all games. 37-63 (-14.7 units) on the money line when the total is 8.5 to 10.

Key Injuries

Arizona Diamondbacks:  S. Beer (1B) out for season - Shoulder injury. C. Smith (SP) Elig Wed - Suspension. K. Ginkel (RP) out for season - Elbow injury.

Players to Watch

Atlanta Braves: Freddie Freeman is one player to watch in this game. He leads his team in hits and he will have to get some here against a bad team to help keep his team in playoff contention. Look for him to make some big hits and get on base in this game to help boost his team and spread the gap in the standings.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Ketel Marte is one player to watch here. He leads his team in batting average and in home runs. If anyone on this team has a chance to spark this offense and play spoiler for the Braves it is him so look for him to get involved to try and dent the chances for the Braves to make the playoffs.

Notable Quotes

"We were basically in a deadlock for four months of the season and playing behind. I really don't think that the challenge is any different in a bad way. If anything, I think we're still in a good spot. This is going to happen. We're going to play really good baseball, and we did and we put ourselves in a really good spot. Now we just got to right the ship." - Charlie Morton on his team as their NL East lead slips away gradually.

"I tried to battle that at-bat. I had an opportunity to swing 3-0 and missed my pitch a little bit there, but I got another chance, put the bat on the ball and sent the ball out of the ballpark." - Daulton Varsho after lifting his team to victory over the Astros on Saturday.
