Jets - Flyers preview, prediction and analysis

The Winnipeg Jets will be playing the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, January 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Winnipeg Jets won against the Ottawa Senators Saturday, January 21 in Ottawa with a score of 5-1. The Winnipeg Jets currently rank 2nd in the Central Division. Blake Wheeler had three points, including his 900th in the NHL, for the Winnipeg Jets.

"We challenged [our best players] this morning because we needed a little bit more out of them," Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. "They responded."

Mark Scheifele had two goals and an assist and Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and two assists for the Jets, who had lost their previous two games. Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves.

"You want some of those saves. They were timely saves," Bowness said of Hellebuyck's performance. "He made some big ones. Listen, this kid is great to be around. I love his attitude and his enthusiasm. He's a great goalie and he's a great competitor."

The Winnipeg Jets have won seven of their last 10 games.

The Philadelphia Flyers won against the Detroit Red Wings Saturday in Detroit, Michigan with a score of 2-1. The Philadelphia Flyers currently rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Carter Hart made 30 saves. Scott Laughton and Noah Cates scored in the third period for the Flyers.

"We know we need to get on a run heading to the All-Star break," Laughton said. "We didn't play well against Chicago (a 4-1 loss on Thursday), so we needed to have a better night tonight."

Flyers forward Nicolas Deslauriers kept the game scoreless at 4:50 of the third period, blocking a shot by Michael Rasmussen from the edge of the crease with Hart out of position.

"I didn't see it, but I guess it was a heck of a kick save," Hart said. "Everyone on the bench told me I owe him a steak dinner."

Philadelphia blocked 31 shots in the game.

"Our defensive game is built around taking away time and space and being willing to block shots," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "We got back to doing those things tonight."

Detroit came close to tying it at 11:16, but Hart made a glove save on a one-timer from Joe Veleno from the right face-off circle.

"Hart was huge for us tonight," Laughton said. "He made a couple great backdoor saves in the third period to give us a chance to win."

The Philadelphia Flyers have won seven of their last 10 games.

Prediction

I can't imagine the Flyers find a way to continue making these winning ways happen, but the Jets are still one of the more better teams in the league and if there's a team that can annoy a John Tortorella coached team, it'd be the Jets. Jets 4, Flyers 1

Betting trends

Jets are 6-1 in their last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less the last game.

Home team is 17-5 in the last 22 meetings.

Jets are 8-23-1 in the last 32 trips to Philadelphia.
