Season Record

Pitt: 6-1 conf, 9-2 overall (ACC)
Syracuse: 2-5 conf, 5-6 overall (ACC)

Pitt is heavily favored in this matchup. No contest.  That doesn’t necessarily mean Syracuse should be a 13-14 point underdog. The current 58-point total seems right, but in this great betting preview we will have to decide if Syracuse can cover?

Pittsburgh vs Syracuse Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

Pitt is 9-2 on the season, but 8-3 ATS.  They have logged 8 Overs and 3 Unders.  Those are heavily consistent numbers against the variety of opponents they have had.  Pitt is 4-0 in road games.

OFFENSIVE ANALYSIS

Pittsburgh stats are the stats of football coaches’ dreams.  They are 3rd in the FBS in points with 43.9, 2nd in the FBS in yards per game with 530.9, it breaks down to 5th in passing yards and 68th in rushing yards.

Syracuse stats are the nightmare of football coaches everywhere.  The Orange are 88th in ppg with 25.9, 87th in ypg with 378, it breaks down to 124th in passing yards and 8th in rushing yards.  They clearly lean heavily on the rush… though it hasn’t produced many wins.  Courtney Jackson leads the team in receptions though he only has 297 total yards.  Garrett Shrader leads the teams in touchdowns though he only has 14 and he plays quarterback.

DEFENSIVE ANALYSIS

Pitt ranks 53rd in defense of total yards giving up only 363.9 per game.  They are 110th in pass defense, but they are playing a run team.  They are 8th in defending rushing yards giving up only 98.8 ypg.  Since the rush is Syracuse’s only strength… We have answered the original question rather early.

Syracuse is good on defense.  They rank 24 in defending total yards, 31st in defending the pass, and 29th in defending the run.  Where it all falls apart is the 125th ranking in takeaways, they only have 3.  Also they play defense well on a losing team.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs Syracuse Orange Prediction

Our prediction for Saturday, November 27th, is… Pitt 48 - Syracuse 17

Blowout for Pitt.  Pitt will cover.  This isn’t the only game the Pittsburgh players will rain TDs from above… it is just a Syracuse Orange college football matchup.

Coaches

Pittsburgh: Pat Narduzzi.  Coach Narduzzi has had the job since 2015.  He was a coordinator at a lot of places prior… but this is his first head coaching gig, it pays $3.25 million a year. His head coaching  record is 51-36.  His ACC record is 35-22.

Syracuse: Dino Babers.  Coach Babers has his work cut out for him, his team is bad.  As the 2015 winner of the GoDaddy Bowl game… you would think he expects more.
