Knicks - Hawks preview, prediction and analysis
There is a good news bad news situation brewing for the New York Knicks. The good news is is that they are finding ways to rack up wins and the expectation is that they will do so once again when they faced the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. The bad news, however, is that we still have no idea what kind of team the Knicks are. All signs point to them finding a way to knock off the Hawks in Atlanta on Wednesday and I would venture to guess that it is likely to happen. However, we still don't know what kind of team the Knicks are at this point.
The Knicks can look like an offensive juggernaut one night, and then come back to next game and completely just fall off the map. And if you look at the last game against the Brooklyn Nets, of course you would think that New York should be able to win this game. When Jalen Brunson goes off for 40 points and wills his way to the best game of his career, you clearly understand that there is some sort of part to this that makes you understand that they should win this game.
But then you have instances like last Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that they beat at home by 11 points a week prior, and New York completely runs out of gas against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and loses by 11 points. Is this the team that's going to get the 40 point production from Brunson, or is this the team that's going to lose in overtime to the Los Angeles Lakers when the time comes.
And in all honesty, the same can be said about Atlanta. This is a team that has been nothing but of a major disappointment all season long and here they are at 58 games playing 500 basketball, and there's no productivity insight for anybody. The Hawks gave up 63% shooting against the Charlotte Hornets two days ago and lost 144-138 while being favored by five. Yes, Atlanta did win against San Antonio in phoenix last week but also got blown out by Denver and lost to the New Orleans Pelicans who did not have Zion Williamson.
Atlanta is looking like one of the biggest frauds in the league right now and the fact that they did not do anything past the trade deadline, or at the trade deadline to ensure bidding some quality depth pieces, was perhaps the biggest head scratcher to me throughout the entire deadline. Other teams were making moves, other teams were looking phenomenal in their roles, but the fact that Atlanta has failed to produce consistency all the while not scoring enough points to win games that they should win, really says a lot about where they are at the moment.
Prediction
When you have no idea which team is the real one, you go ahead and take the team that is impressed you more the last time out and with this game, I am very much confident that I have been boy pressed with New York than any other team that has come through. Knicks 114, Hawks 109
