An NBA Eastern Conference matchup between the 5th place and the 7th place teams… yet the 5th place team will be desperately trying to find a new identity as the dust is settling on two league shaking, roster shattering trade deadline moves. The Brooklyn Nets lost/finally got rid of two NBA all-stars in PG Kyrie Irving and SF Kevin Durant… but they did get back a mid-level PG, a high quality defender (Finney Smith), and a legit two-way star in this league (Bridges)... plus lots of picks and pick swaps. They will have to figure out what to do with still being stuck with the big contract of Ben Simmons?... But everyone has a burden to bear in this league. The remaining role players and the incoming quality guys may make up a team that holds a spot in the playoffs… or they may sink like a lead balloon and worry about everything in the offseason. The New York Knicks made only one small move… they sent out Cam Reddish, and a 2023 first round pick for Portland’s SF Josh Hart… Josh will be a bench player in New York, but he is insurance for both Quentin Grimes and RJ Barrett turning an ankle or going cold from the 3-point line. The Knicks had desperately hoped to trade SF Evan Fournier… but that guy’s contract was too big for anyone else to swallow… even if he is a good shooter. If he can’t get consistent minutes on your roster… why in the heck would I want to pay him $20 million to be on my roster?!! The great betting opportunity here is to look at Brooklyn’s NEW starting FIVE and figure out what they might be capable of doing?
The Brooklyn Nets have won only 4 of their last 10 games… and only 1 of their last 4 games. But now is a new day. The outgoing players are gone and the incoming players are finally all lined up and cleared to play. The new starting lineup will feature 2 former Suns, 2 former Mavericks, and their current rebound leader. It is all different. The Nets lost their last game to the 76ers 101-98. In the loss they got 23 points from SG Miles Bridges (who should be the SF) and 18 points from SG Joe Harris off the bench… But very little from anyone else as guys are still learning each other’s name. Bridges has a two-way game that would work on any roster in the league as the 2nd or 3rd option to a star or two (we just saw 3 1/2 seasons of exactly that in Phoenix)... He may struggle as the first option in Brooklyn for a little while… he will also have lots of suitors if the Nets let him reach Restricted Free Agency.
The New York Knicks have won 6 of their last 10 games, going 5-4-1 ATS during that run. They won their last game over the Utah Jazz (but it was a PUSH) 126-120. The scoring is a big plus for the Knicks as they got 38 points & 5 assists from revelation PG Jalen Brunson, 31 points & 6 rebounds from PF Julius Randle (who New Orleans should have never let get away), and 20 points from SF RJ Barrett. SG/SF Josh Hart had his first Knicks game while getting 11, 7, 4 off the bench… as expected SF Evan Fournier got a fat DNP the moment Hart showed up. The Knicks are solid… but maybe they should have pushed more by adding Toppin to a Fournier trade package? We will see?

NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn is 3-0 ATS versus New York in Manhattan the last 3 seasons.
35 of 53 of these games have gone UNDER since 1996.
The Nets are 9-0 straight up against the Knicks the last 3 seasons, but 5-4 ATS.
Players To Watch
Nets: SF Mikal Bridges. This is Mikal’s team now. He has shooting weapons around him. He will have to take a leadership role to make this stuff work. He will have to take the role NOW.
Knicks: SF RJ Barrett. RJ is an athletically gifted player. He is an OK shooter and he is fast to spots anywhere on the court. He is also 20% knucklehead. You can see it on the defensive assignment mishaps which must drive the hidden spirit of Tom Thibodeau NUTS! RJ is the key because apparently Randle and Brunson are going to show up every night.
COACH
Nets: Jacque “What the hell happened?” Vaughn
Knicks: Tom “I’ve been through it” Thibodeau
