Grizzlies vs Trail blazers Preview and Analysis.
RECENT FORM
The Memphis Grizzlies are flirting with being a good team this year… It has been a while. If you haven’t been paying attention since they last made the playoffs the lineup is all new and very young. This off-season the Grizz traded Center Jonas Valanciunas to the Pelicans for Center Steven Adams which seems like a lateral move, but came with some ancillary pieces to fill out the bench and stock the draft pick jar. So far this season they have beaten the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-121, beaten the Los Angeles Clippers 120-114, and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in a very close game 121-118.
The Portland Trail Blazers have struggled to find their footing this season so far. Star point guard Damian Lillard is averaging 17 ppg … 7 points less than his career average and 12 points less than last season when he averaged 28.8. There has been open speculation that he is unhappy and quietly looking to be traded. His shot isn’t falling is all we know for sure. The Blazers lost to the Sacramento Kings on opening night 124-121, then beat the Phoenix Suns 134-105, then lost again to the Los Angeles Clippers 116-86. A 1-2 record isn’t the worst thing, but the inconsistency of play has been eye-opening.
Offensive Analysis
The Grizzlies are 3rd in FG% in the NBA, 5th in 3PT%, 9th in offensive rebounds. The team is really coming together. Defense shouldn’t be a challenge for Memphis, especially not in this matchup.
The Blazers are shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 77% from the free throw line. They are 12th in total rebounds, but 26th in offensive rebounds. They have oft-injured center Jusuf Nurkic healthy and back in the lineup.

Memphis: Taylor Jenkins is in his second season as the Blazers head coach. He is going to have a fantastic time coaching Memphis if Ja Morant keeps scoring 35 pts a game this regular season.
Portland: Chauncey Billups. New coach, big time retired NBA player. Chauncey was often referred to as the coach on the floor in his playing days… and now he can be referred to as the player on the bench in his coaching days.
