The Purdue Boilermakers will try to win for the 6th straight time when they host the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday in what could be another dominant display from Purdue.

 

The Boilermakers are coming off a 61-39 victory at Minnesota on Thursday to cap off an impressive road trip that included a 64-63 win in East Lansing against Michigan State three days prior. Braden Smith finished with nineteen points, 7 rebounds and seven assists totally Purdue come on while Zach Edey had 12 points to go with six rebounds.

 

those were the only two players for Purdue to score in double figures, but when you're playing against Minnesota, you have to expect some tough defense on that side. He also had to expect that Minnesota has no idea how to play offense in its own zone. The Gophers were held to just 31% shooting and went two of 10 from 3 point range. To do the math, that equals to 20%.

 

“I’ve never believed that we needed 30 and 15 from me to win,” Edey said. “We have a lot of guys who can really do a lot of damage.”

 

But that’s what Edey gave the Boilermakers the last time they beat the Gophers. In that game, Edey had 31 points and 22 rebounds in December. The fact that he was 10 points below his season average and still made an impact with four blocks tells you all you need to know.

 

“He’s had to really work and develop into his success, so when that happens you know you’re humble and you had to do a lot of little things just to help your team win,” coach Matt Painter said.

 

Maryland is coming into this game having laws three the last five but found a way to win on Thursday in a 64-58 victory over the Michigan Wolverines. It was one of the rare times Maryland has actually been favored to win a game, even though Michigan has been about as horrendous as one could expect this year.

 

Jahmir Young had 26 points to lead all scorers, and Hakim Hart Was the only other Maryland player to reach double figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Despite the fact Marilyn shot 41% from the floor and just 20% from 3 point range, it was a rather realistic chance for Maryland to win that game. It also doesn't help that Michigan is not that good this year.

 

The underdog has actually covered in six of the last seven meetings, which is fairly impressive to say the least. It should also be noted that the road team has covered in six of the last ten with two of them being a push. But the fact that there is such a wide discrepancy between Purdue and Maryland right now doesn’t bode well for the Terps. They just don’t have the dominance needed to take over Purdue.
