Season Record

Clippers: 16-15 on the season, 6th place Western Conference
Kings: 13-19 on the season, 11th place Western Conference

The Clippers are amazingly in 6th place in the Western Conference… proving that there are no good teams in the west after the #5 Denver Nuggets….. And even Denver is holding on by a thread.  The Clippers as a franchise made the classic mistake… In the summer of 2017, they determined the combination of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and the role players around them would be able to go no further than a game away from the conference finals… so they traded CP# for 4 quality role players and a first round pick.  They then signed Blake Griffin to a max contract extension and the moment they could they traded Blake to the Detroit Pistons for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and a future 1st round pick, but since it was a three way trade the Clippers also got Center Willie Reed and forward Brice Johnson…. So they were left with a team loaded with guys who weren’t all-stars, but all of them could play.  Plus they had a big bag of future draft picks including their own. … Then the mistake happened, the brain trust of the Clippers sold the new, enthusiastic, multi-billionaire owner on a franchise destroying path to trade every asset and every pick they had in the bag… for Paul George in order to sign.. Kawhi Leonard as a free agent.  They emptied the shelves for two guys who both had a history of missing entire seasons due to knee injuries.  Kahwi went down with another knee injury, if he never gets better soon it will be a decade before the Clippers can rebuild.  The Clippers are on a three-game losing streak against the Utah Jazz, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the San Antonio Spurs.  Anyone can beat them at any time.

The Sacramento Kings have always been bad… they didn’t just stumble into it because of poor trading and a knee injury.  The Kings build slowly and poorly.  They always are in a good draft position and rarely do they come up with the gem.  Plus they can’t get free agents because they are a cow town with nothing exciting going on and you have to pay California state taxes to live there… players sign there only if no one else wants them and the straw that broke the camel’s back is they never trade well either.  The Kings lost their last game to the Golden State Warriors 113-98. Several players on both sides missed because of Covid… if they all had played the result would have been the same. The Kings are fodder… they win some, they lose most.

Los Angeles Clippers vs Sacramento Kings Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

The Los Angeles Clippers are 16-15 on the season, but 13-18 ATS.  They have logged 13 Overs and 18 Unders.  They are 4-7 in road games.

The Sacramento Kings are 13-19 on the season, but 14-18 ATS.  They have notched 15 Overs, 16 Unders, and 1 Push.  They are 7-9 in home games.

Offensive Analysis

The Clippers are 25th in the league in points with 105.5 per game, 23rd in rebounds with 43.9 per, and 24th in AST/TO ratio with 1.5.  They are shooting as if Rajon Rondo is on the team, 21st in FG%, 10th in 3PT%, and 14th in FT%.  Defensively they are playing well as if they have Rajon Rondo on the roster 8th in defense of points with 105.3, 9th in defense of FG% and 8th in defense of 3PT%.

The Kings are 6th in the league in scoring with 110.8 ppg, 16th in rebounds with 44.8, 22nd in AST/TO ratio with 1.6.  They are shooting 16th in FG%, 24th in 3PT%, and 25th in FT%.... The offensive numbers are good the way you’d imagine a young team loaded with athletic talent would be…. The problem is the defense.  They are 29th and allow 114.3 ppg… you won’t win many games with that type of effort.  Fortunately the Kings relieved Luke Walton of his clipboard and filled the spot with veteran head coach Alvin Gentry.  They need defense and the front office should be looking to find it.
