Season Record

Pacers: 3-7 (13 place, Eastern Conference)
Kings: 5-4 (6th place, Western Conference)

The Pacers are struggling. The lost Friday night to the Portland Trail Blazers in a close one 110-106… close is still a loss.  It’s a shame because the combo of Sabonis and Turner is fantastic.  They need everyone healthy before we find out who doesn’t fit and who does.

The Kings are the same headache they have always been.  They win enough not to be the worst team in the league or even the West.. and they lose enough to never be a good team or even a playoff team.  The problem with this version is they have a really great young roster. The pressing matter they face this year is they have to figure out what to do with PF Marvin Bagley III.  The player they took #2 in the draft 1 pick before Luka Doncic a few years back.  Marvin isn’t getting any playing time and seems to simply have not worked out.  Conventional thinking is to move Marvin attached to SG Buddy Hield in a trade for someone big, but Buddy Hield is scoring 17.8 ppg and 6 rbs in limited time off the bench.  Those are 6th man of the year type numbers.  Still Buddy will be very expensive to keep and some other team might want to kick the tires on Marvin and find out what the Kings missed.

Pacers vs Kings Preview and Analysis.

RECENT FORM
After the first ten games, the Indiana Pacers are 3-7 SU and 5-5 ATS.  They have logged 4 Overs and 6 Unders.  So far they are a terrible road team, having gone 0-5 in road games.  They fare better at home having gone 3-2 in home games.  They are clearly not bound for the NBA Finals, but also they shouldn’t be included in any of your NBA basketball parlays… they seem like a bad bet for now.  They have beaten the New York Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Miami Heat (in overtime). In all three wins backup PG TJ McConnell had stretches where he seemed to be controlling the pace of the game and directing the action on the court. Their first loss was a heartbreaker to the Charlotte Hornets 123-122, the second loss another heartbreaker to the Washington Wizards 135-134 (in overtime)... so it’s not like the Pacers are doormats, they do put up a fight.

After their first 9 games, the Sacramento Kings are 5-4, but 6-3 ATS.  They feel like a team that is rising in the world especially after their last win, a blowout over the Charlotte Hornets 140-110.  They have notched 3 Overs, 5 Unders, and 1 Push.  The Kings are 3-2 on the road and 2-2 at home.  NBA predictions on the Kings are tricky… they do have a winning record but two of those wins were over the New Orleans Pelicans… then they got beaten by the Dallas Mavericks 105-99.  The Utah Jazz have beaten the Kings twice and the Golden State Warriors have beaten them once.  They still have to face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.. We will know more about what kind of NBA team this is if they are still above .500 after 20 games.

Offensive Analysis

The Pacers are 11th in the NBA in points per game with 110.7, 20th in rebounds 44.9, 16th in assists-to turnover ratio, and 7th in blocks with 5.9 per game.  Those Stats are all over the place… Myles Turner definitely gets blocks, but is he then struggling to get rebounds?

The Kings are 2nd in the league in points per game 113.2, 13th in rebounds 46 per, 6th in assist to turnover ratio 1.8, and 17th in blocks 4.8.  They are playing really well.  They have only been held under 100 points once and that may have just been a bad Kings shooting night instead of a great Dallas Mavericks defense night.  Rookie Davion Mitchell is playing great and on a definite upswing.  He is averaging 102 ppg but has logged 18,12, and 19 over the last 3 games.  If he keeps getting minutes and keeps producing (he’s great on defense)... the will have to explore a Buddy Hield move.

Injury Reports:

Indiana is missing SF TJ Warren and PF Isaiah Jackson indefinitely.  Both SG Malcolm Brogdon and SG Jeremy Lamb are Questionable Sunday vs Sacramento.

Sacramento’s roster has just gotten fully healthy.  They have unlisted their Day to Day players

Starting Lineups

Pacers: PG Malcolm Brogdon, SG Chris Duarte, SF Caris LaVert, PF Domantas Sabonis, C Myles Turner

Kings: PG De’Aaron Fox, SG Tyrese Haliburton, SF Harrison Barnes, PF Maurice Harkless, C Richaun Holmes

Statistical Leaders

Pacers
Points: Domantas Sabonis 19.5
Rebounds: Domantas Sabonis 11
Assists: T.J. McConnell 5.2
Steals: Domantas Sabonis 1.4
Blocks: Myles Turner 2.7

Kings
Points: Harrison Barnes 22.2
Rebounds: Richaun Holmes 11
Assists: De’Aaron Fox 6.8
Steals: Tyrese Haliburton 1.3
Blocks Tyrese Haliburton 1.2

Coaches

Pacers:  Rick Carlyle.  Rick is many things; an NBA championship winning coach, an NBA lifer, and a Jim Carey look-alike.  He is in his second stint with the Pacers and he needs the roster to get healthy to see if the skill rotation of Brogdon and LaVert (and TJ Warren) can complement the All-star front line of Sabonis and Turner.

Kings:  Luke Walton.  Lame Duck Luke.  The Kings coach always gets fired eventually and the reason is the Kings never became winners.  Of course over the last two decades they have drafted and traded like a barmaid throwing darts blindfolded.
