The Times They Are A’ Changing!  Look quick and realize that the Sacramento Kings are in 3rd place in the Western Conference.  A better mid-season result than they have seen in nearly 2 decades… Oh and the Spurs (winners of 5 titles the last 25 seasons) are in 14th place… meaning 2nd to last place.  So again the Spurs are terrible and the Kings are god… and pigs are flying… There is plenty of ice water in Hell.  That is the reality of NOW.  The Sacramento Kings are good.  Last season they pulled off a trade that brought them C Domantas Sabonis at the height of his powers!  It was a rare trade in that the Kings got a franchise player out of the deal AND their trade partner got a franchise player out of the deal in PG Tyrese Halliburton. Both teams immediately became better than they were!  A working trade for all parties?... What is this Nirvana?... You can chalk it up to “fit”.  As for the San Antonio Spurs?... Nothing “fits”.  They have been tumbling down the NBA staircase since they moved Kawhi Leonard “with a gun to their head” to the Toronto Raptors 4 seasons ago.  As recently as last season the Spurs entered very rare air for a proud multi-Championship franchise with a Hall of Fame coach… They are “tanking”.  They are happily losing now.  They can taste the baguette available in the marketplace… and it is 7’4 and plays Center like a mix of Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett… and it requires that you lose now to win later.  This team traded away Dejounte Murray to get here?... This team traded away Derrick White to get here?  This team routinely plays PF Zach Collins and C Jakob Peoltl as if those weren’t two names that belong on the G-league all-star list. The Kings are very good VS the Spurs are very bad.  The great Betting Opportunity here is all found in the point spread.  What is the right amount of points to risk your money on?

The Sacramento Kings have won 7 of their last 10 games.  They have risen to 3rd place in the Western Conference.  They went 6-3-1 ATS during that ten game stretch.  They won their last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-111 in overtime for a big win ATS ( as suggested in this column).  In the win they got 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists from PG De’Aaron Fox… He had help from C Dopmantas Sabonis who plowed through Rudy Gobert with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 assist.  Not the best night Sabonis has had.. But a win is a win.

The San Antonio Spurs have won ONLY 1 of their last 10 games.  They are not as bad as the Houston Rockets… still they are very very bad.  They are on a 6 game losing streak and had a 3 games losing streak before that win.  They have only gone 3-7 ATS during the last ten games.  They lost their last game to the Washington Wizards 127-106. In the loss the Spurs got 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists from SF Keldon Johnson… and 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assist from PF Jeremy Sochan… everyone else basically sleep walked through this game.  If the Spurs want Victor Wembanyama both those guys should be trade chips the next few days.

Sacramento Kings VS San Antonio Spurs Preview and Analysis

The Kings are 1st in scoring with 119.5 points a game, 23rd in rebounds with 42.2 per game.  The scoring leader is always low in rebounds because they don’t have as many rebounds to go for.  On defense the Kings rank 22nd in defense of points while allowing 116.5 points per game.  They have a +3 points per game which is why they are winners… If they could find a “little more” defense… They would be dominant in the West.

The Spurs are 23rd in scoring with 112.6 points per game, 16th in rebounds with 43 per game… and the defense is a woeful 30th in defense of scoring while allowing 122.3 points per game. A -10 points per game is why they are one of the worst teams in the league and possibly one of the worst teams ever to wear their jersey.

Sacramento Kings VS San Antonio Spurs Prediction

Our prediction for Wednesday, February 1st is…. Kings 121- Spurs 100

Bet on the Kings.  The spread will not be 20 points… Yet the win will be.  The Kings have guys coming off the bench that could be starters for the Spurs… only if the Spurs were trying to win.

NBA Betting Trends

Sacramento is 1 OVER and 9 UNDER off a road win this season.
San Antonio is 1-13 ATS against a Pacific Division Opponent this season.
However the Spurs are 13-3 ATS after a non-conference game this season.

Players To Watch

Kings: PF Keegan Murray.  Keegan has been an invisible guy in his rookie season.  Still he is good.  He is holding down the Power Forward position on a winning team.  He is averaging 14.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.  Those numbers will go up as he gets more experience.  How much they will go up will determine whether this version of the Kings will eventually be a true contender in the West.

Spurs: SF Keldon Johnson.  Keldon is having a monster season in his 3rd year since being taken 29th overall.  He is the picture of a late first rounder who bought himself a long career.  However… if he were on a good team would his number hold up?... Is he really good or is he playing on a roster with no other options?... He is currently averaging 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in the last ten games.  Is he great?... Or is he all rather is in the cupboard?

COACH

Kings: Mike “I was a Laker Coach… Suckers!” Brown
Spurs: Gregg “Older Than Dirt” Poppovich
