A Western Conference battle between teams that will taste the postseason this year.  Is there a legit contender among them?... We are still not sure.  They BOTH definitely have strong stars on their teams… and they both sure have a weakness here and there too.  So the difference when 3 plays 5 in the West?... Is often borne out by who is on the injury list and where the game is played.  The great betting opportunity here will be found in the recent numbers.  Let’s take a look.

The Sacramento Kings have won 7 of their last 10 games, yet are on a 2-game losing streak.  They lost their last game against these Exact same Minnesota Timberwolves 117-110 for a BIG loss ATS.  That game was on their home court.  Both teams loaded up on planes to fly to Minnesota to do it all over again. In the loss C Domantas Sabonis had 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists while PG De’Aaron Fox had 29 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists.  So what went wrong?... Well… Role player SG Kevin Huerter had a bad shooting night… and since he doesn’t supply much defense that really hurts.  Role player PF Keegan Murray also had a bad night with only 8 points and 4 rebounds in 32 minutes of playing time.  SF Harrison Barnes had a bad shooting night while picking up 13 points… Yet 10 of them came  the free throw line.  Vegas still favors the Kings in this matchup because it is preposterous that all 3 of these starters will shoot as badly as they did.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won 7 of their last 10 games while being on a 3-game winning streak at the moment.  They last beat these same Sacramento Kings in Sacramento 117-110. The magic of that win came from SG Anthony Edwards and his 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. He got help from PG D’Angelo Russell who had 25 points and 6 assists.  The backcourt combined for 59 points!  That is a pretty great formula for a win as long as C Rudy Gobert gets his 13 points & 14 rebounds and throws in a block, which is what he did.  That is a near perfect mixed formula for Timberwolves wins… Edwards and Russell scoring while Gobert holds the fort down low.

Sacramento Kings VS Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, January 30th is…. Kings 118 - T-Wolves 112

Bet on the Kings.  The Kings will not get 3 bad shooting games from ALL three of their role playing starters.  Yes, In the offseason the Kings will absolutely need to upgrade the SG spot from Kevin Huerter to a complete player. However at the moment Kevin is still a shooter capable of hitting lots of shots at a moments notice… and he will do it.

NBA Betting Trends

Minny is 3-0 ATS versus Sac at Minny the last 3 seasons.
The Kings are 6-0 ATS after having lost 3 of their last 4 games this season.
Minny is 3-10 ATS after 3 straight games of hitting 47% of their shots or better.

Players To Watch

Kings: C Domantas Sabonis.  Sabonis is a bonafide All-star and team leader… It only took him a full rookie contract in OKC… followed by a couple years in Indiana… and then a big trade to Sacramento last season.  For years he was the 20-10 guy that few people had ever heard of.  Now he is the centerpiece of the much better Sacramento Kings.

T-Wolves:  SG Anthony Davis.  Anthony Davis was the #1 pick of his NBA Draft back in 2020.  He has spent the last 2 ½ seasons showing off a very high offensive and athletic skill set.  His real challenge is RIGHT NOW. He must display that he is capable of leading the Wolves instead of being the best player on the Wolves… There is a difference.  If the front office looked at him and saw a leader?... D’Angelo Russell and Karl Anthony Towns would be shipped out for players that would better fit Edwards.  It’s up to him… first in, last out, motivate… it’s all up to him.

COACH

Thunder: Mark “who?” Daigneault
Warriors: Steve “Lord of the Rings” Kerr
