A Western Conference battle between the best and brightest of Los Angeles.  It is a city rivalry, a stadium rivalry, and a fan rivalry… too bad it is not a rivalry for anything important.  The Los Angeles Clippers will find themselves as the visitors on their home court.. And like every other game they will see more Laker jerseys in the stands than Clipper jerseys. The Clippers started the season as Vegas favorites to win the title… and they have not lived up to the promise.  The Lakers started the season as a team with 2 of the 10 best players in the league and title contenders… They have obviously not lived up to the promise.  The great betting opportunity here is found in deciding who will stink up the joint the most?  The Clippers of course need health… while the Lakers need more players.  The Lakers addressed that situation by trading Kendrick Nunn and three 2nd round draft picks to the Washington Wizards for PF/SF Rui Hachimura… This is an absolute Coup for the Lakers since Nunn and 3 future 2nd round picks were not going to do anything to help PF LeBron James maximize his next 2 years of remaining greatness in a Lakers jersey.  Rui will not play in this game as there is usually a period of transition that causes traded players to miss one or two games as they get physicals and move to a new city.

The Los Angeles Clippers are on their first 2-game win streak since December 27th.  They are currently winners of 4 of their last 10 games. They are 3-7 ATS during that stretch.  In their last game they beat the Dallas Mavericks 112-98 while Clipper SF Kawhi Leonard got 30 points… SG Paul Geroge got 21 points… and bench scorer Norman Powell SG/SF got 19 points.  That is exactly the formula fro winning the front office were hoping for when they added Powell 18 months ago and watched as these three have barely ever been dressed to play on the same night. If these three are and stay healthy?... This is a whole different team.  All of that remains to be seen.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in 12th place in the West but only 2 games out of 6th place.  The West is so bunched that the Lakers could conceivably jump up 4 spots on any given night that they win and a couple of the others on the list lose. The Lakers have won 6 of their last 10 games… They are also on a 2-game winning streak.  They also just pulled off a trade for PF Rui Hachimura who will help a great deal in filling Kyle Kuzma’s much missed size and athleticism. However LeBon James, who got 37 points in the 121-112 win over the Portland Trail Blazers last game, is nursing ankle soreness and listed as questionable. If the Lakers shut LeBron down out of caution? that will put a team without LeBron, Anthony Davis or Rui Hachimura on the court.  At least no one will notice that they don’t have Kendrick Nunn.

The Lakers are 6th in scoring with 117.1 points per game, 6th in rebounds with 44.9 per game, 15th in AST/TO ratio with 1.8, and 15th in blocks per game with 4.7.

Our prediction for Tuesday, January 24th is…. Clippers 120 - Lakers 109

Bet on the Clippers.  They have PG-13, the Klaw, and Norman all playing right now.  That takes a whole lot of pressure off of quality NBA role players like PF Marcus Morris SR, Swiss Army Knife Terence Mann, and C Ivica Zubac. In fact the Clippers only have PG John Wall and SG Luke Kennard on the injury list… those guys are insurance policies more than anything. It is the healthiest the Clippers can expect to ever be considering their last 2 1/2 seasons.

Clippers: Bench player Terrance Mann.  Terrance plays forward and guard and forward and guard and forward… etc etc.  Terance is good at both.  Terrance is a deep bench 2-way player that gets called up to start anywhere at any time because the Clippers stars simply do not play  a lot.  Watch him and wonder how much better he would be on the Pacers, Blazers, Rockets if he had the freedom to get minutes at just one of the positions and grow from there… etc etc….

Lakers:  PF LeBon James.  Why on earth would you watch one of the worst teams in the entire league… If not to watch the best player in NBA history?... That is why you watch and why we watch… It is also why the MJ lovers are scared to watch.  LeBron will very soon be the all-time scoring leader.. And everyone who loves MJ as the best player of all time, will have to reckon that LeBron has more playoff wins, more points in the postseason, definitely more rebounds in the postseason and all-time, more assists in the postseason and all-time, definitely more assists all-time.. Oh and LeBron went to a heck of a lot more finals than MJ.
