On the surface this looks like an NBA Western Conference mismatch… but it is certainly NOT.  The Golden State Warriors are the NBA’s defending Champions while the Thunder have been slowly building a team through high draft picks based on trading away former stars and finishing near the bottom every year.  The Warriors are in 6th place, while the Thunder are in 11th.  If the season ended today?... The Warriors would have a guaranteed playoff spot while the Thunder would not even qualify for a Play-in game.  The Warriors routinely dress 3 future NBA Hall of Famers in their starting five, while the Thunder have several inexperienced players who are too young to buy a beer at the hotel bar.….. Yet, they are only separated by two wins.  The Golden State Warriors are floundering this season based on their standards… They are also a little unbalanced with their much admired depth last year having transformed into a load of question marks.  The Oklahoma City Thunder have the best young backcourt in the NBA… They are rivaled by the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers… but when it comes to best young backcourts?... The combination of PG Josh Giddey and SG Shai Gilgeous Alexander is the standard.  Given the right supporting players?... Shai and Josh could start dominating the entire league.  The great betting opportunity here is in deciding if the Thunder are ready for this moment?

The Golden State Warriors have only won 4 of their last 10 games and are on a 2-game winning streak at the moment.  They won their last game over the Toronto Raptors 129-117 for a big win ATS as they were favored by -4. In the win the Warriors got 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 11 assists from the best Warriors of all time, and they NBA’s best shooter of all time PG Steph Curry.  With Steph in the game the Warriors are always dangerous.  Steph got help from his Splash Brother (playing out of position) SF Klay Thompson who had 29 points with 6 made 3-pointers. PF Draymond Green had yet again a sneaky great statline with 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.  The fact that Draymond plays defense always… The addition of 7 assists from the power forward spot is a key reason this team has won so many titles together!

The Oklahoma City Thunder have won 7 of their last 10 games.  They are beginning to feel the power of Josh and Shai playing together and the league is really starting to notice! They beat Dallas, Philly, Brooklyn, Denver… tons of teams ranked higher than they are and with more wins then they have.  The winning has taken them to the lower rung of teams with a chance at winning the NBA Draft Lottery with their own pick… but since they have last seasons pick 7’3 C Chet Holmgren missing his entire rookie season with a broken foot?... This team will be getting an upgrade next season anyway… whether they hit in this year’s draft or not. They last beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 112-100 while getting 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists from SG/PG Shai Gilgeous Alexander.  He had help whose 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists are not eye-popping but since he only had to play 27 minutes… they counted when they were needed.

Golden State Warriors VS Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, January 30th is…. Thunder 118 - Warriors 112

Bet on the Thunder.  These two teams are drastically close both in amount of wins, amount of quality wins, and scoring averages.  The difference is that Steph Curry and Jordan Polle will be at a defensive mismatch.  While down low the Warriors will have an advantage?... They simply do not have to worry about undersized Draymond Green going for 20 points.  The Thunder are also a fun watch.

NBA Betting Trends

The Thunder are 4-2 ATS versus Golden State the last 3 seasons.
The Warriors are 2-9 ATS as a road favorite this season.
The Thunder are 17-6 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 t0 9.5 points this season.

Players To Watch

Thunder: PG Josh Giddey.  Josh is a big point guard.  Tall and young and skilled. His statlines are the thing to watch.  The guy can score, pass, rebound, and defend… and their are several NBA general managers who are still kicking themselves for letting him drop to the Thunder with the 6th pick in 2021.

Warriors: PG Steph Curry. I don’t need to give you the bio for one of the greatest NBA players ever.  The Hall of Fame waits for him… but it will have to wait because this superstar veteran is still scoring like a guy in his prime.  When you watch Steph you shouldn’t think any shot is a bad shot… cause he can and has made those in bunches.

COACH

Thunder: Mark “who?” Daigneault
Warriors: Steve “Lord of the Rings” Kerr
