Rebels vs Volunteers Preview and Analysis
RECENT FORM
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-1 and threatening to be the cream of the crop in the Sun Belt conference. They lost game 1 of the season to UT 38-18. UT is a major school jumping from major conference to major conference and they have an aggressive new head coach who seems to be passed his serious, significant drinking problem. Louisiana had little chance in game 1 but still managed to post 18 points. Games 2-6 were all wins! Winning is fun! 2) Nicholls State 27-24, 3) Ohio 49-14, 4) Georgia Southern 28-20, 5) South Alabama 20-18, 6) Appalachian State 41-13. The biggest problem in the season so far is that the louisiana-lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns seem to be playing up or down to their competition. If they finish OCT with the mindset that they must pay their game, they will win the Sun Belt.
The Red Wolves are howling in frustration. They opened the season with a win over Central Arkansas 40-21. Game 2 was a close loss to Memphis 55-50! The total points wound up at 105! That’s a tough loss. Game 3 a blow-out loss to Washington 52-3. Game 4 a loss to Tulsa 41-34. Game 5 a loss to Georgia Southern 59-33. Game 6 another big loss to Coastal… 52-20. The wiin is now a distant memory. The team is demoralized. Any quality player must be texting buddies at other programs to act as go-betweens with coaches to see if there is an interest in the transfer portal from the other end. They are 3-3 over their last 6 against the Point Spread… forget SU.
Offensive Analysis
The cajuns are 61st in offense in the FBS. They have scored 24 touchdowns on 425 yards per game.
The Red Wolves are an amazing 39th in offense in the FBS. For a losing team at least they are clicking on one side of the game. They have scored 20 touchdowns on 439 yards… why are they ranked higher than the Cajuns with 4 touchdowns less? Strength of schedule and closer scores. It’s not real.
Defensive Analysis
Louisiana’s defense is ranked 64th in the FBS on defense. They have given up 17 TDs and 377 yards per game.
The Arkansas State defense is ranked DEAD LAST in the FBS on defense. 130th out of 130. They can’t stop anybody. Their defensive line is soft and the secondary is slow. If they wanted to improve their defensive numbers they would have to start playing high schools. They have given up 38 touchdowns on 584 yards per game (584!!!!). The one good thing is they don’t give up many penalty yards per game… that is their best stat… 25th in fewest penalty yards. It’s hard to give up penalty yards when you refuse to hit anyone.
Mississippi vs Tennessee Prediction
Our prediction for Saturday, October 16th is… Cajuns 55 - Red Wolves 24
