76ers - Nets preview, prediction and analysis

The Brooklyn Nets will be playing the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, January 25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Brooklyn Nets won against the Golden State Warriors last Sunday, January 22 in San Francisco, California with a score of 120-116. The Brooklyn Nets currently rank 3rd in the Atlantic Division. Royce O'Neale walked gingerly onto the podium with an ice bag around each knee and reiterated the soaring confidence level among the Brooklyn Nets even with star Kevin Durant on the sidelines nursing a knee injury. With the defense keying on Kyrie Irving, O'Neale hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 28.5 seconds left.

“Kyrie had been getting to the basket, hitting tough shots and at that moment, he drove, two people double-teamed and he found me open," O'Neale said. “I just needed to have the confidence to knock it down.”

Nic Claxton contributed career highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds with three blocks as the Nets won two in a row following a four-game losing streak that followed Durant getting hurt.

“It’s a lot of confidence going around, everybody’s taking the challenge, stepping up, finding out ways to win games,” O'Neale said.

The Nets have won two straight and may have finally found a formula to play without Durant, but there's still a lot to be had. The Nets have covered in the last two after failing to cover in the previous five. Expect this to continue if there's something available.

The Philadelphia 76ers won against the Sacramento Kings last Saturday, January 21 in Sacramento, California with a score of 129-127. The Philadelphia 76ers currently rank 2nd in the Atlantic Division. Tyrese Maxey scored 15 of his 32 points in the third quarter and the Philadelphia 76ers, playing without Joel Embiid and James Harden, completed a perfect five-game road trip. Maxey also had seven assists and six rebounds to help the 76ers overcome a 21-point deficit.

Embiid and Harden rested foot injuries but the rest of the 76ers snapped Sacramento’s six-game winning streak. Tobias Harris, Montrezl Harrell and Georges Niang all had 17 points for the Sixers.

“That was a resilient win by our guys,” 76ers coach Doc Rivers said. “Everyone who played did something to help us win tonight. It’s a team win.”

“I was telling them (76ers) I was gonna come out aggressive in the third,” Maxey said. “I think in the first and third quarter I was letting them (Kings) dictate what shots that I was taking. (In the third), I dictated what we needed. I think I did that for most part of the third quarter.”

The Sixers are playing extremely well right now and have been finding ways to cover and win outright. That win over the Kings was a great combination of star power and taking advantage of a young team to make such a comeback. They've covered in three straight.

Prediction

There's the matter of the Nets playing well the last two, but that formula runs out when you have to deal with Harden and Embiid when they're clicking that way. 76ers 114, Nets 107
