Nets - Warriors preview, prediction and analysis

Recent form
Nets: won 117-106 at Jazz
Warriors: won 120-114 at Cavaliers

The Brooklyn Nets will be playing the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, January 22 inside Chase Center in San Francisco

The Brooklyn Nets won against the Utah Jazz last Friday, January 20 in Salt Lake City, Utah with a score of 117-106. The Brooklyn Nets currently rank 3rd in the Atlantic Division. Kyrie Irving scored 48 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter for a second straight night.

Brooklyn won for the first time since Kevin Durant’s knee injury behind Irving’s memorable finish. He shot 70% from the field in the fourth quarter and made four 3-pointers. Irving fell two points shy of matching Utah’s fourth-quarter point total.

He accounted for 18 of the Nets’ 43 baskets by himself – including a season-high eight 3-pointers.

“He’s just in a different world,” Nets center Nic Claxton said. “He’s locked in. He’s in a different type of zone and he makes those big shots time and time again."

Irving also had a season-high 11 rebounds and six assists, leading Brooklyn in both categories. And he also took a couple of early charges.

“I put my body on the line and lead by example,” Irving said. “When I can get it going on the defensive end and do the little things, it really makes a difference for me and I’m dialed in.”

Claxton added 20 points and four blocks. Royce O’Neale chipped in 13 points and six assists in his first game back in Utah since being traded to Brooklyn before the season.

The Nets found a way to win and snap their four-game losing streak, but the win came at an expense of an up-and-down Utah team. That is going to be the way we look at this. Sure, Kyrie got a win without Kevin Durant and that will be counted for everything that it is, but that's not going to be the easiest situation going forward until Durant comes back. Just hang around and find the games that can keep you afloat. That was one of them. This one? Maybe not.

The Golden State Warriors won against the Cleveland Cavaliers last Friday, January 20 in Cleveland, Ohio with a score of 120-114. The Golden State Warriors currently rank 2nd in the Pacific Division. Jordan Poole scored 32 points, Ty Jerome added 22 and the Warriors dropped 23 3-pointers while Curry and three other starters sat on the bench.

“We kind of hung on for dear life down the stretch, but got it done,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "It was just one of those nights. You play 82 games, so you know you’re going to have a few of these.”

“The biggest thing is, even without our guys, we expect to win,” said Jerome, who is on a two-way contract with Golden State and Santa Cruz. "Everyone that played was good tonight and that’s awesome for us.”

The Warriors have won five of their last 10, playing .500 ball over the course of that time, and now they get the chance to redeem themselves with Curry back in the lineup. It may still take a couple of games more before he gets back up to form, but doing that against a Donovan Mitchell-less Cleveland team is a good step in the right direction.

Prediction

The Nets are still an unsure thing, as are the Warriors, but I certainly trust that group to get the job done at home more than Kyrie. Warriors 110, Nets 103
