Boston Red Sox Analysis

The Red Sox are coming into this game with a 0-0 record overall and this will be their 1st game of the regular season and 1st game of their 3-game series against the Yankees here. Their season opener is on Friday night. Nathan Eovaldi will be on the mound for them on Friday in this game. He was 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA last season and he has pitched in 12.2 innings this season in Spring training. He allowed 9 hits, 7 runs, and 5 ER with 2 of those being home runs but he also had 16 strikeouts as well. He pitched very well in the playoffs last season and even though his team only won 3 of their 5 games with him starting, he rarely allowed more than 2 runs in those games. The Red Sox have also added a lot of firepower to their lineup and they should be in much better shape than they were last season, and they had a very good lineup last season. Last season, they were averaging 8.9 hits per game, 5.1 runs scored per game, and 8.6 strikeouts per game.

New York Yankees Analysis

The Yankees are coming into this game with a 0-0 record overall and this will be their 1st game of the regular season and 1st game of their 3-game series against the Red Sox here. Their home opener is on Friday night. Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for them on Friday in this game. He was 16-8 with a 3.23 ERA last season and he has pitched in 5.1 innings this season in Spring training. He allowed 6 hits, 5 runs, and 4 ER with 2 of those being home runs but he also had 10 strikeouts as well. The last time he started in a game was also the last time he faced the Red Sox as he pitched an awful game in the playoffs last season, ultimately leading to the elimination of the Yankees. The Yankees have barely made any moves in the offseason and with the season about to start, they have not even inked the face of their franchise, Aaron Judge, to a new deal yet. They have had a very disappointing offseason and it may lead to a disappointing season for them as they play in a very tough division. Last season, they were averaging 7.8 hits per game, 4.4 runs scored per game, and 9.1 strikeouts per game.

Red Sox vs Yankees Prediction

The Red Sox are coming into this game as a big underdog here but they have all the value on them here. This is a rematch of the playoff game that saw the Yankees get eliminated last season and this is even the same pitching matchup as well. The Red Sox smashed the Yankees in that game and Cole did not pitch very well against them. The Red Sox have also been picking up a lot of good players in the offseason while the Yankees have really done nothing to improve their team for this season. The Red Sox have the better lineup here and the better pitching. They have all the value on them at that price, the Red Sox will win this game.
